Move over Crazy Time, you’ve got competition!
Since it’s the start of the month (happy first week of September!), I thought I’d kick off the final days of summer by blogging about the game that’s been one of my favourites this season. That game, of course (spoiler in the title), is Mega Wheel.
I’ll be honest, I never thought I’d find a live casino game as fun and as interesting as I do online slots. Nearly a year ago I discovered that Evolution’s Crazy Time is a lot of fun to play, but my enjoyment playing Mega Wheel live was a surprise to me. Why? It has far fewer bonus features compared to Crazy Time and its gameplay is ridiculously simple. This, I quickly learned, is part of its charm.
Heard about Mega Wheel but never played it? Know about the game, but not sure if it’s for you? This week, I’ll tell you all about it, why I like it, and why I think you should take part in the spinning action.
👩💻 Mia’s Note: The following information about Mega Wheel pertains to Ontario online casinos, specifically my experience playing it at PlayOJO. The information provided may or may not apply to the same game offered in other jurisdictions or casinos.
Mega Wheel – What It Is and Why It’s Worth It to Play
What is Mega Wheel?
Mega Wheel is a live casino game created by Pragmatic Play. It launched on November 11th, 2020 (…making it among the handful of good things to come out of that dumpster fire of a year… 😩) and it is Pragmatic’s first ever live casino game show. To this day, it remains one of their most popular.
Curious to see it somewhat in action? This preview from Pragmatic’s official YouTube will give you an idea of what it looks like. 👇
Specifically, Mega Wheel combines land-based casino money wheel games (e.g. The Big 6, The Wheel of Fortune, etc.) with TV game shows, giving players the best of both worlds.
Mega Wheel features a live game host and a massive colourful wheel with a single pointer. This wheel has 54 multi-coloured segments divided by pins. Your objective is to predict what the wining number will be when the wheel stops. Mega Wheel is a high volatility game and the RTP is 96.51%.
Every segment of the wheel has one number, and each number represents one of the game’s betting options. Some numbers have more segments than others. The size of a payout from a Mega Wheel win is based on your bet multiplied by the wining number. Each number is multiplied by itself.
MEGA WHEEL NUMBERS | |||
Number | Payout | Colour | Wheel Segments |
1 | 1x | Beige | 20 |
2 | 2x | Yellow | 13 |
5 | 5x | Blue | 7 |
8 | 8x | Purple | 4 |
10 | 10x | Red | 4 |
15 | 15x | Orange | 2 |
20 | 20x | Green | 2 |
30 | 30x | Violet | 1 |
40 | 40x | Pink | 1 |
You can bet on one or multiple numbers individually per game round.
Mega Multiplier – Beyond each number having its own multiplier, what makes each game round more exciting is the Mega Multiplier. This is the game’s only feature. After bets are placed, an RNG (random number generator system) randomly selects one of the numbered symbols as the Mega Lucky Number. This Mega Lucky Number is assigned a random Mega Multiplier, boosting the payout of this Mega Lucky Number should the pointer stop on it.
The highest possible multiplier is 500x, meaning the biggest payout in Mega Wheel is 40 with a 500x Mega Multiplier. Depending on your bet size, that could mean one massive payout!
Throughout each round, an upbeat 1980s-esk TV game show-like soundtrack cycles in the background and an enthusiastic, friendly host guides gameplay. The men are dressed in a vibrant blue three-piece suit with a gold waistcoat, while the women wear an off-the-shoulder, knee-length, light blue, flouncy satin dress with a gold belt (at least, that’s what they wear any time I’ve played😆). In addition to chatting with the players via live chat, the host is responsible for spinning the giant wheel.
Mega Wheel is broadcasted from a licensed live gambling studio, in real-time. The game runs 24/7, and you can play it via your computer (my choice) or mobile device. It’s designed to perfectly accommodate both user experiences.
How to play Mega Wheel
Mega Wheel is by far one of the easiest games I’ve ever played at an Ontario online casino. You simply…
- Pick the size of your wager and bet on the number(s) you want.
- Watch the wheel spin and hope luck is on your side.
- Win and receive the corresponding payout if the wheel stops on your number, or lose if it doesn’t.
It’s honestly that straightforward.
In greater detail, here’s how to play Mega Wheel:
- Login to your casino that offers the game.
- Load Mega Wheel.
- Create a nickname if you are prompted to do so (this name will be used if you take part in the chat).
- Select the amount you’d like to bet.
- Wait until bets are open.
- Place your bet within the allotted time (I think you have about 10 seconds)
- You can bet anywhere from $0.10 up to $1,000 using the colour-coded chips marked from $0.10 to $500.
- You can bet on more than one number per game round, simply mark the number with the bet chip you select (usually I bet on 1, 2, and 5).
- Watch the wheel spin.
- Discover what the random Mega Lucky Number is and the Mega Multiplier that applies.
- Hope that your number (or one of them) is the winner.
- Receive your payout if you’re a winner.
- Next bet round begins.
If at any point during the game you feel that you need more detailed instructions on how to play Mega Wheel, select the help button. It’s the question mark icon located at the top righthand side of the game screen.
In this same section where you’ll find the question mark, other game options include:
- Chat with the game host
- Request live support
- Mute the sound
- Change the camera view from full screen to classic view
- Check your bet history
- Alter the settings (for instance, if you don’t wish to view the live chat running on the side of the screen, you can shut it off in settings).
Why I like Mega Wheel
Every Mega Wheel experience I’ve had I’ve enjoyed.
The most I’ve won is $9.00 (remember, I’m a low bettor), which was a Mega Win I scored when I bet on 2 and it was selected as the round’s Mega Lucky Number with an 8x multiplier.
Usually, I bet either $0.50 or $1 each on 1, 2, and 5 per game round. I’m a low-risk player, so this is my preference as these numbers have the most segments on the board. By betting all three, I have a greater likelihood of landing one of them as combined they cover 40 segments on the wheel.
More to the point, these are the top reasons why I like it:
- It’s easy to play
- Games are fast (like a minute long), which makes them easy to hop in and out of
- You can choose from a wide range of bet amounts
- The random Mega Multiplier adds excitement to each spin
- I like that there are certain features that make it easy and fast for you to bet (I use the Rebet button the most)
- The hosts have always been fun, super-chatty and engaging each time I’ve played (although I can admit that I don’t take part in the live chat. I’m much more content listening to the host responding to the chat 🤣)
Is there anything I don’t like?
I guess if I had to complain about anything it would be that the stream quality can sometimes be a little grainy. I’m not sure if that’s on my end, the casino’s end, or the live studio.
I’ve also been booted from the game a couple of times after it lost connection. While annoying, on the plus side, I’ve never had any issues with losing my bets. If I was booted from the game, I was refunded my bets. Other than the less-than-perfect stream quality and the occasional glitch, there isn’t anything about playing the game itself that I don’t like.
Who I think will enjoy playing Mega Wheel live the most
Short answer: Everyone.
Long answer: In my opinion, Mega Wheel can appeal to most players, regardless of their budget size, skill level, or playing preferences.
On the one hand, due to how quick each game is, it’s easy to drop in and play a couple of games in a few short minutes. On the other hand, the Mega Multiplier feature, the fact that you can bet on multiple numbers at once, and the chatty game host, makes it highly engaging if you’re interested in playing for a while.
Another reason why I think most players will enjoy this live game show is its various range of betting options and wheel layout. You can easily pick a risk level that’s comfortable for you. If you seek less risk with a lower reward, you can bet on one or more of the lower numbers for a higher chance of landing a win. If you’re after bigger thrills and potentially larger payouts, increase your risk by betting on the higher numbers. Heck, if you’re feeling bold, you can bet on all the numbers.
Mega Wheel is just easy fun. Will it be the best casino game you’ve ever played? Probably not. Will you enjoy yourself when you play it? Likely.
The easiest way to find out for yourself is to play. Even if you’re not sure if it’s for you, like most live games, you can watch the game in action without taking part. This lets you see how it plays out and you can also peruse the different options and info, to decide if it’s something you want to try. 😁
Have you played Mega Wheel?
Have you played Mega Wheel live? What do you think about it and how would you say it compares to other Money Wheel-based live casino game shows?
Until next time, good luck and have fun.
