These games sound like they’d be a lot of fun to play
Recently, I came across an article that talked about Rival i-slots, and it caught my interest. The reason being was that the games were described as “unique” and “fully interactive slot games”. The “fully interactive” part is what caught my attention.😲
So, I decided to look into the games a little further and after my research decided to make a post about what I learned, in case there were any other Ontarians (or players from other locations) who had heard about these games and were curious about them too.

What are Rival i-slots?
I learned that Rival i-slots are multi-reel and multi-line video slots that feature mini movies with plots that develop as you play the game. The “I” in i-slots stands for “interactive” (side note: the interactive storylines are what the games are known for, don’t expect to be blown away by graphics🤣).
Each game has its own theme and storyline. The base game is like playing a regular slot – you spin the reels, symbols appear and you get a payout if you hit a winning combo, or you’ll trigger a bonus feature (aka the interactive storyline) if you land the right number of special symbols on the reels.
The bonus feature starts with a mini movie that leads into a bonus game where you can influence how the story goes. Depending on the game progress, different plots can develop, leading to a different path and a different ending. As such, this means that each time you play the game, it might play out differently. Pretty neat, eh?
A Rival i-slots example
Here’s an example of an i-Slot called Heavyweight Gold that I found on YouTube.

In the video (which I’ll include below), Heavyweight Gold is a 5×3, 20-payline slot with a boxing (very Rocky-like) theme. 🥊🥇🎰
The game starts with a little movie, where a big, burly, blond boxer (you) is in the locker room getting ready for the fight. It then cuts to said boxer beating the stuffing out of his opponents, the crowd going wild, and him winning the heavyweight gold. From there, the game begins as all regular video slots do, with the reels spinning.

Not long after the reels spin, the Knock Out Bonus Round is triggered, which takes you to a second screen where a mini game begins, with the objective to knock out your opponent.

During the game, you can choose to “Attack” or “Defend”. If you defeat your opponent, you climb the ranks and earn money. The round ends when either you win or get knocked out. Once over, you return to the base game for the chance to trigger more knock out rounds to become a champion.

The game looks like a lot of fun (and I really wish I could actually play it myself!). In fact, it reminds me a lot of an old Nintendo game (I’m talking the original NES, here) called Punch-Out!! (anyone remember that gem?😎).
Other Rival i-slots I was able to view on that YouTube channel that looked pretty neat were Spy Game and Baby Boomers Cash Cruise.
Who makes Rival i-slots?
I found out that Rival i-slots are (or were?) made by a company called Rival Powered, once known as (or also known as?) Rival Gaming. Based on the information I could find about the company, Rival has been around since 2005 and is a B2B (business-to-business) games developer and supplier.

Their online casino games include video slots, classic slots, progressive slots, table games (roulette, blackjack, baccarat and poker variants), video poker, and specialty games (like Keno and other types of arcade-like and instant-win games)
According to their LinkedIn profile, Rival Powered is headquartered in London, but lots of other places say that the company is from Cyprus.🤷♀️
Rival software is licensed by the Curaçao Gaming Control Board (CIGA), better known as Curaçao eGaming. Currently, Rival powers about 40ish online casinos, and you can only play Rival games at Rival casinos.
Do Rival i-slots still exist?
I genuinely don’t know. Rival Powered definitely still makes video slots, but as for its unique i-slots series of games, I couldn’t find anything on the company’s official site about them or at casinos where Rival games are featured that suggests they do.
The YouTube video of the Heavyweight Gold i-slot I talked about and included screenshots of above, is from seven years ago. Beyond that, review sites like lcb.org, which talked about these games (and where I first stumbled across their existence), also didn’t provide much in the way of whether or not these games still exist.
Even when I checked out a specific review of the i-slot game As the Reels Turn (love that title btw – gives me total nostalgia vibes from when my mom used to watch soap operas when I was kid 😂) from LCB – and was so excited to have come across a game demo – my hopes of trying it out were dashed because the game requires Flash, which is no longer supported. What’s more, although the review of the game was apparently last updated in 2022, the most recent comment was from 5 years ago. 🤦♀️

So, ultimately, if I had to make an educated guess, I’d say that the time of Rival i-slots (to my dismay 😮💨) has come to an end.
Are there Rival i-slots alternatives?
I like most slot games, but the more interactive they are (with mini bonus game rounds) the better. Personally, I’d love to know if there are close alternatives to Rival i-slots out there. Has anyone played these games and/or know what other games (still available) that they can be best compared to?
Please share in the comments below or even message me on Twitter or Facebook (or even answer my Rival i-slots question directly on Quora) if you do.🙏
If I happen to learn more about the fate of Rival i-slots or if I find decent alternatives, I’ll be sure to share my findings.😁
Until next time, good luck and have fun!
